This week at Arts Scholars...

We Hope You Had a Great Winter Break!

We hope that your holidays were time well spent with family and friends and provided you with some time away from your studies to just be you.  In just under one week the spring semester will be underway.  We're looking forward to your return and in preparation would like to relay the following information specific to the start of the semester for the Arts program.

Spring Workshop Schedule

The workshops listed below are now available for signup on ELMS on a first come first serve basis.  Students may sign up for only one workshop.  Slots are limited to avoid over-crowding so please sign up as soon as possible.  Syllabi for each workshop are now live on ELMS for students to review the content of any workshop they may have an interest in. Please sign up in the scheduler on ELMS by going to your calendar page, select the course on the right side (CPSA101/201), then click the "Find Appointments" button on the right. The workshops should show up on January 28 and 29. If you cannot see them, please make sure CPSA101/201 is highlighted in the menu on the right side of the calendar page. Here's the workshop schedule:
Mondays:
  • Bullet Journaling
  • Latin Dance
  • Me in a Movie Filmmaking
  • Comics Craze
Tuesdays:
  • 3-D Poetry
  • Soulful Songwriting
  • Watercolor Painting and Feminine Expression

Important Registration Notes
If you have not registered for colloquium (due to credit restriction or other official reason) prior to January 24th, it is likely you will not have access to ELMS to sign up for a workshop.  Please be in touch with Heather (hbremens@umd.edu) if you have a registration conflict (to include any course schedule conflicts) so we may assist you with registration and a seat in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd workshop of your choice.

Registration Reminders:
All first year students should register for CPSA101 for one credit.  All sophomore students should register for CPSA201 for one credit as well as 2 credits of capstone credit (CPSA240, 250, or 260).

Students may sign up for a workshop on either Monday OR Tuesday regardless of the official scheduled day of their colloquium provided the chosen workshop does not conflict with another course.

First Day of Workshops
Following the confirmation of the workshop rosters generated by the sign up lists, students should be sure to view the workshop syllabi if they have not already done so.  The first week of workshops will be held on January 28th & 29th.

For the first week only, on the day of your workshop ALL students are asked to come to CCC 1100 (Monday) or CCC 1205 (Tuesday).  We'll have some important information and instructions to share about the semester before dismissing students to their assigned workshop location.

Arts Fest 2019
Mark your calendars and share with your friends and families!  This event, like no other on campus, features an exhibition of student artwork, performances, and presentations created over the duration of the semester from the workshops and sophomore capstone projects.

All Arts Scholars participate in this event at the end of April which is held in the Stamp Student Union and coincides with Maryland Day.

Arts Fest Opening Gala: 7pm, Friday, April 26th
Arts Fest & Maryland Day: 10:30am-3pm, Saturday, April 27th
