If you are interested in applying to complete the MSMC Graduate Certificate, please use this form to apply by March 27, 2020. Please let Kenna (kenna@umd.edu) know if you have any trouble using the form and let Mary (alexander_schou@msn.com) know if you have any questions about the program.

Faculty Update

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Quint Gregory! Quint is teaching the Museum Research Seminar course for the first time this Spring. Quint joins us from the Art History Department where he is the Director of the Michelle Smith Collaboratory for Visual Culture.

Meet a Current Student

Kenna Hernly is the current graduate assistant to the MSMC program and is the person behind the newsletter. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership in the College of Education. Her research focuses on art museum education and ways to engage visitors in exhibitions. Before coming to UMD, Kenna was a curator of public programs and interpretation at Tate St Ives, UK. In March, she will be starting the Kress Interpretive Fellowship at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Things to Share

This month, MSMC students wanted to share the following opportunity with you:

The North Carolina Preservation Consortium (NCPC) will be having a Disaster Recovery Workshop on April 20, 2020, at the Duke Homestead State Historic Site in Durham, NC. Veteran collections stewards and disaster planning and recovery experts Martha Battle Jackson of N.C. Historic Sites and Sharon Bennett of the College of Charleston will guide participants in a collections wet-recovery scenario. Registration is $50 for NCPC members and $75 for non-members (includes morning refreshments and lunch). Scholarships are available to cover the cost of registration. For more information on the workshop and scholarships, please visit https://ncpreservation.org/workshops/.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Sarah Wampler (swampler@umd.edu) to arrange rides and accommodation.
